Kömmerling PVC-U in Focus – the sustainable choice

There has been a lot of focus on energy efficiency in the PVC-U fenestration sector for a long time now, and while this is still of the utmost importance, it’s time to expand the conversation. Energy efficient windows and doors should now be the starting point, not the end of the story. Kömmerling’s range of PVC-U systems offer a great solution for today and tomorrow, because they are not only energy efficient, but sustainable too.

Mission sustainable!

We have published our company-wide mission statement about sustainability on our website, so that we can be held accountable to our promises. This includes taking a holistic approach to sustainability.

Closed-loop recycling

While the process of recycling is now a familiar one, closed-loop recycling is the gold standard. The window industry for example, can take the PVC-U profiles from old windows and ground them into pellets that are combined with high quality new input material to make new windows.

Using recycled materials to manufacture more of the same product is important for building a circular economy which saves energy, reduces CO2 emissions, and cuts waste. Kömmerling was one of the founding members of just such an initiative for the window industry.

Bio-attributed PVC

In addition to this recycling initiative, we wanted to give fabricators and installers additional peace of mind, so we now offer fully certified bio-attributed PVC. The RSB (Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials association) has certified profine for its bio-attributed PVC which uses a pine oil-based raw material instead of petroleum in the production of ethylene. The manufacture of bio-attributed PVC saves more than 90% of CO2 emissions compared to traditional methods.

Energy efficient windows for climate protection

Manufacturing PVC-U profiles with recycled materials and with built-in sustainability is the next level of responsibility for systems companies, but the energy efficiency of the profile is still important. According to the Energy Savings Trust around 22% of carbon emissions in the UK come from our homes. Kömmerling’s technically better PVC-U profiles drastically reduce energy and heat requirements in UK homes.

Choose Kömmerling PVC-U for today and tomorrow

Kömmerling continues to lead the way in offering technically better PVC-U profiles, but the addition of a comprehensive sustainability policy that covers ecology, as well as social and economic environments, puts it well ahead of its competitors. This in turn gives fabricators and installers the peace of mind that they are not only prepared for demand in the market today, but tomorrow too.
