The UK often follows its European counterparts when it comes to the style and design of building components and properties themselves. It is estimated that 70% of European windows and doors are now coloured, and the UK is starting to follow suit with one in four windows and doors now being installed in a range of colours other than white.
PVC-U windows are still hugely popular in the UK and as manufacturers do more to improve their sustainability credentials, this majority share looks set to remain. The material’s durability, versatility, affordability and low maintenance properties have ensured it has remained a front runner for many years. And as more people choose coloured windows and doors, PVC-U’s ability to hold onto colour for long periods of time with minimal maintenance, should secure its position for many more years to come.
Colour of the year
While colour is something that is always explored during the sales process with a consumer, the idea of straying away from standard white windows and adding a splash more colour to their homes may be more prominent at this time of year when paint manufacturers and the leading source of colour expertise, Pantone, announce their colours of the year.

For 2026, Pantone has opted for ‘Cloud dancer’, a lofty white, to be its colour of the year. The company suggests that it is the perfect shade to encourage creativity, innovation and calm in a noisy world, and offers a good base colour for a range of other palettes.
Calm is also the theme for Dulux colours of the year with a ‘family of indigos’ being named as its hero shades. Dulux claims the three shades of blue are calming and space-changing and offer something for every room and every mood.

And finally, Valspar has chosen ‘Warm eucalyptus’ as its colour of the year to suit the trend towards mindful living, slowing down and restorative design. The company also cites the colour’s suitability for the increasing trends towards blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, a trend that is wholly relevant to the window and door industry.
Kömmerling PVC-U colour offering
Kömmerling has all bases covered when it comes to delivering coloured profile to our installers. From more traditional colours to a more modern palette, we have a range of 65 colours to suit all projects and property styles. We have simplified our offering with a standard range of 11 colour options, but we understand that consumers are getting braver and increasingly want to embrace more individuality in their choice of windows and doors, and so are ready to support our installers with a much broader range for those more specific requests.

With new colour trends popping up and encouraging homeowners to explore different palettes for their homes, dual colours are also likely to become more popular. Perhaps a homeowner will want to make a statement on the outside of their home, but keep the inside more subtle, or perhaps the opposite will be true, and the windows and doors will play a bigger part in the interior design of the room but remain more understated from the outside. Kömmerling can accommodate any combination of colours to help installers win the sale.
Foiled finishes should also be part of the conversation when it comes to design options, because they allow consumers to benefit from a wide range of colours, but they also allow a wider range of effects, such as the authentic woodgrain aesthetic that so many homeowners are still looking for.
Colours for today and tomorrow
The Kömmerling range of PVC-U windows and doors with wide choice of single or dual colour options and foil finishes, offers installers peace of mind because they can say yes to any project requirement, from the conventional, to the unique, safe in the knowledge that they are installing technically better PVC-U products. And with a comprehensive sustainability policy to back up our quality colour offering, we can help keep our installers ahead of the competition and ahead of the latest colour trends, today and tomorrow.
